How does CBD work?

Cannabidoil (CBD) is a cannabinoid. You (and your pet!) already have cannabinoid receptors on cells throughout your body. The body naturally makes cannabinoids from foods high in fatty acids. These cannabinoids bind with the cannabinoid receptors to regulate the organs and tissues they are on, maintaining homeostasis for that body part. This is the naturally occurring endocannabinoid system in your body.

The endocannabinoid system's cannabinoid receptors are on cells throughout the body - brain, organs, connective tissues, etc. This system's goal is to maintain homeostasis for each organ or tissue that it is on.

The endocannabinoid system in your body regulates:

Sleep, appetite, mood, temperature regulation, motor control, immune function, pain, pleasure, reproduction & fertility.

CBD is a naturally occurring plant cannabinoid in hemp and cannabis that interacts with the naturally occurring cannabinoid receptors your body already has. If your endocannabinoid system is not working properly or needs a boost, CBD may help.

How will CBD make me (or my pet) feel?

Although everyone is different, most people find taking CBD is like taking an over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol, but find CBD to be more effective for pain and inflammation with the added benefit of a harmonious feeling of peace and well-being. If taken right before bed, some users experience mild morning grogginess. This can be fixed by taking the dose of CBD at least a few hours before bed with food and/or by reducing the dose.

CBD is non-psychoactive, so it is not like consuming THC. CBD has a benevolent, medicinal effect on the body's endocannabinoid system and can actually counteract the "high" effect of THC, which is caused when the endocannabinoid system is overwhelmed.

Some people do not notice an effect right away when taking CBD (or THC) for the first time. This is because some people do not naturally have enough cannabinoid receptors to be able to utilize enough CBD to be beneficial. Not to worry! You can increase the amount of cannabinoid receptors your cells have with consistent low doses of CBD. Increasing the number of receptors your cells have increases the effectiveness of the CBD you're consuming.
